"What a Gem"

What an amazing place. Janna and Richard (the owners) are such lovely people. They are what the Aloha spirit is about. My husband and I eloped on Maui, and Janna, being a florist, made me the most beautiful boquet. The property is oceanfront, and it felt like home away from home. We like to cook in about 1/2 the time, and the kitchen came fully stocked with everything you would need. I'm definetly coming back to the Aikane. Two of our favorite restaurants Mama's Fish House and The Waterfront.

"Everything We Needed"

HOSTS

Hosts can make all the difference to whether you enjoy your holiday ...or not!! Jana and Richard are lovely hosts who are friendly and approachable. They were prepared to go out of their way to ensure the comfort of their guests. They were always willing to answer questions and take care of small details whenever it was practical. This made all the difference to our stay and was greatly appreciated.

LOCATION

Aikane cottage is in a superb position on a small cove with its own beach beyond the lawn and enjoying the shade of (not sure of the name!!) trees as well as beautiful views and sunsets. It is in easy walking distance of a shopping mall with 24 hr supermarket and only 2km from the beach front of Kihie. It.s very peaceful in the evenings and perfectly quiet and restful at night.

ACCOMMODATION

Our accommodation was a twin bedroom apartment with spacious living/dining kitchen and en-suite bathrooms for each bedroom, spacious covered veranda and allocated parking. It was furnished to a very high standard with clean and comfortable lounge furniture, dining table chairs, comfortable beds and ample storage/wardrobe space. The kitchen contained every utensil you could imagine and the usual fridge, microwave, cooker etc. It had everything we needed and more.

ACCESS

Aikane is easily accessed from the main road transiting Kihei with the entrance next to St Theresa.s church, a useful landmark.

AMENITIES

I won.t try to describe all the amenities available but Kihei has all you.ll need ranging from lovely beaches to restaurants to diving etc etc and there is more than enough information available. Richard and Jana can always point you in the right direction.

LAUNDRY

Jana provides plenty of towels and also provides an excellent laundry service to ensure you don.t run out of towels or clothes. Again this made all the difference to us.

FACILITIES

You will find beach towels, food coolers and picnic lunch boxes in your apartment. Jana and Richard have a small pool of beach chairs, mats and body boards etc. We made great use of this.

There is a fantastic hot tub set in the garden and ideal to chill out and watch the sunsets or the stars. Again we made great use of this wonderful facility.

All apartments have TVs and DVD players. (There is a great channel describing all the facilities on the island).

Although we didn.t use it I believe there is wireless internet connectivity

CONCLUSION

Although I have probably forgotten to mention something, we found everything we needed here and would definitely go back to Aikane if we ever venture to Hawaii again. You will notice that I have written no negative comments to balance the positives and that is not an oversight. I really can.t think of anything that we weren.t more than satisfied with. Finally a thank you to Jana and Richard for the excellent standard of accommodation and facilities they provide, but more importantly for their genuine, friendly, helpful approachable manner. We came to Maui from the UK for our honeymoon and Aikane was perfect, We recommend this accommodation without reservation to anyone heading for Maui.

"Absolutely Amazing Accommodations"

My boyfriend and I decided to stay a week in Maui and wanted to split our time between Kihei and Hana. Originally, I had my heart set on a specific condo unit, but after encountering an unfriendly and very unhelpful owner, I decided to look else where. I am an avid tripadvisor member and use this site constantly to help make decisions on our travels. I saw the Aikane and it immediately caught my eye. I was hesitant at first in booking this accommodation. However, after speaking with Janna (the owner) on the phone, her friendliness changed my mind completely. I booked asap with Janna and Richard and was hoping it would be everything that I had seen on their website. I had to rely solely on the website since there are no pictures of their place posted on tripadvisor. I can honestly say that their website does not do their property nor their condos justice.

When we arrived at the property, we found it to be very private as it was quite a ways from the road. The landscaping was beautiful and meticulously maintained. We were greeted by Janna who showed us to our room and went over everything we would need to know while staying at her place. The Aikane is a 4 condo rental. All 4 condos are on the bottom floor and have a living room, fully equipped kitchen (minus a stove), and a separate bed and bath. Each condo also has a large lanai with a dining table and chairs, and lounge chairs that can be moved out onto the back lawn. Units 1 and 4 are the outside units---meaning that their entrance is from the outside of the building. Units 2 and 3 are accessible only from the inside of the house or from the back lanai. The top floor of the building is the owners' private residence. Please do not mistake this for a bed and breakfast. After the first initial greeting, we were allowed our privacy and to come and go as we pleased. We had unit 2 and did have to enter through the main entrance to the building and into the work quarters of the owner to access our room. At first this was a little awkward, but we soon enjoyed coming out and talking with Janna. I felt that I got a better idea of who she is from our little chats as we would come and go. This unit also allowed us more access to the owners.

Unit 2 was very well maintained and was quite newer than other options in Kihei. The condo was very clean, extremely spacious, and had everything we needed. We felt that this accommodation was very unique in its setup. It really felt as though we were staying with an aunt or a relative. Janna and Richard are great hosts and can give great insight about the island. As first time visitors to Maui, we had many questions about where to go, what to do, and where to shop and eat. Janna and Richard went well out of their way to answer our MANY questions and to help us navigate the island. Janna even gave me suggestions of where to buy authentic "souvenirs," including jewelry. She recommended this wonderful women, Linda, that makes sea glass jewelry. If you stay with Janna and you are looking for great jewelry, be sure to inquire about this lady.

The Aikane is located right in Kihei and is within walking distance to shops and many restaurants. However, from the property, you would never know you were in the middle of a town. The property is really oceanfront, and it takes a very short stroll across the back lawn to reach the ocean. The property is so peaceful and calming. We like to be in smaller accommodations with less people and no children. This type of atmosphere makes for a relaxing and romantic vacation for us; this is exactly what the Aikane provided. Every morning we would wake up to the sound of the ocean and to the wonderful birds singing instead of the usual slamming doors, kids screaming, and road traffic that you would encounter at larger condo complexes. This was just absolutely fabulous for us. We could not have asked for more... until we left for Hana.

When we checked out of the Aikane, we were sad to go, but I was excited to go stay in Hana. What a mistake! We made our trip to Hana and quickly called Janna at the Aikane to ask if she had any availability for us to come back. Luckily, she had our original condo available for the remainder of our stay. We were even able to get a late checkout for a fee since the next renter was not coming in until the next day. We were/are very grateful that they were able to accommodate us at that time. We really could not wait to get back to these accommodations.

Honestly, I just cannot put into words how beautiful the property and the owners are. I believe we owe it to the owners to spread the word about their wonderful property, even though we want it to be our little hidden gem. As a traveler, I understand how choosing an accommodation can be stressful and how accommodations can make or break a vacation. The Aikane certainty made our vacation memorable, and it was the essence of our trip. We will stay no where else when returning to Maui.

"Hidden Jem"

My wife and I recently returned from Maui where we had a fantastic week staying at Aikane Oceanfront Rentals. We've long used Trip Advisor to make our travel decisions so we felt we should post a review here as I would definately recommend this place to others. It's incredibly quiet, located in a great location, the units are very nice (even nicer than the photos make them appear on-line), and the owners are great people who will go out of their way to ensure you enjoy yourself (many thanks Janna and Richard!). If you're looking for a condo to rent in Kihei, this is most likely your best bet.

"The absolute best place to relax in Kihei"

This was absolutely the best place to relax in Kihei. The property is estate like and quiet -- truly an oasis of calm. The condo was modern, spacious, very clean and well equipped with wonderful air circulation too keep it cool and fresh smelling. The beach was just a stroll across the lawn and was quiet and serene.

It was great having the property owners Richard and Janna on sight. They were wonderful hosts dropping by with fresh cookies, bananas, pineapple and cocunut. Janna even brought us a couple of slices of Lemon Tart from the restaurant she and Richard had just eaten at. Janna steered us to several wonderful local restaurants along with ginving us great advise on local atrractions.

We would definitly visit again.
